After using Windows 7 for the past couple of months now I have a new favorite feature. This may sounds a little odd but my new favorite feature is "all the stuff they took out of the operating system". Items like Microsoft Mail, Windows Movie Maker, etc are gone. The Operating System is extremely clean and fast.
My three month old laptop which I recently upgraded to Windows 7 has been the beneficiary of an unexpected but welcome surprise of increased Power Savings. I've learned that Microsoft has stated that there are several power saving features built into Windows 7 representing approximatly a 30% savings. I have seen this first hand and me and my battery life have never been happier!
The User Account Control (UAC) introduced in Vista was a wonderful idea, but it seemed to always be popping up warnings and was an irritation. This has been corrected with Windows 7 and prompts you for major itemsand is a great security feature that all users should take advantage of.
The included Windows Disc Image Burner does all the basic things like burning a cdrom to a disk as well as advanced items like scanning and burning ISO and IMG files. A very useful features which used to require a third party application.
Built in Windows are "Gadgets" which provide features like displaying the outside temperature, clock, and calendar on your desktop. Once again saving you from downloading a third party application and possibly some hidden spyware or adaware at the same time.
It may sound trivial but the wallpapers (over 30) are a nice addition as well. Windows 7 has came along way since the days of purchasing Microsoft Plus in order to get a colorful background or screensavers.
And any time I'm talking about Windows 7 I just have to mention the new wonderful Taskbar. Drag a file onto a shortcut in the Taskbar, and Windows will open the file using that app. Hover your mouse over a running application’s icon, and it expands to show live thumbnail previews of all of that app’s windows, floating just above the Taskbar. Mouse over a thumbnail, and Windows will bring that particular window to the foreground. You can even close individual windows from the thumbnail previews. This feature alone is worth the upgrade to Windows 7!
