Spotlight: Windows7 Beta

Windows has just released the beta version of its next operating system, code named Windows 7. In software development, a beta test is the second phase of software testing in which a sampling of the intended audience tries the product out. Here at Iowa Solutions, we have Windows 7 running in our lab environment. Windows Vista continues to gain market share daily. However, it does not appear that it will be as widely adapted as its predecessor XP. Most of our clients are waiting for Windows 7 and skipping Vista, although we have installed some Vista machines with success.
(Microsoft has said, publicly, that late 2009 is the target date for shipping Windows 7. The “you can’t claim we’re late” date remains the first part of 2010.)
Although Windows Vista is new and has cool features it doesn’t appear to be changing the face of business for the majority of small businesses. With speed increases and features like Windows Touch, task switching, and the very exciting taskbar previews; Windows 7 appears to be the next upgrade that everyone will want to take advantage of. If it’s not already in your budget for 2009 make sure this upgrade with new hardware is a high priority for 2010!
